terrific ride

January 2, 2012

Ordered the Voyageur 21R (rigid, I didn't want a bouncy-ass front or rear suspension) brand new thru a local bike shop (Bernie's Bike Shop in O.B.) in August 2011. Naturally, Bernie's did the assembly, adjusting & fine tuning which included adjusting the shifters, brake cables & truing the wheels at no extra charge. My rides are typically 10-20 miles at a time, up & down all kinds of hills (neighborhood streets) & over paved streets, sidewalks, rough asphalt & dirt. I ride hard, fast & aggressive with some casual cruising thrown in during the mix. Within the first month or so I put about 200 miles on the bike. No problems. Rides terrific. With my riding style, if anything was going to break quickly, I believe it would have already broken. I consider the bike to be solid. And most importantly to me, I can pedal it up any steep hill without having to get off & walk it up. Most of my riding is during the summer and I plan to put several hundred miles on the bike this summer (2012). Then once it's "broken in" (i.e. chain & cables stretched from several hundred miles of riding) I'll take it back into the shop to do some final adjusting on the brakes & shifters. I plan to do another review at the end of summer 2012 after another 200-400 miles.
