Just What I Was Looking For

December 9, 2011

I am most pleased with my Schwinn "trike". It is just what I wanted. At first I was concerned about not having the gears but it is very easy to peddle that I don't miss them. I am back to riding to the point that I've even begun riding my trail bike too. I do not understand the negatives about the owners manual. I am 70 years old and I assembled the trike myself using only the manual that came with it. NO parts were missing and it went together just as indicated; just don't take any "short cuts". It does take some time and you do need extra hands as indicated but no problems. Mine also developed the loud click but it goes away after riding it a bit. The only "problem" is that the rear fenders do not stay aligned and will rub the wheels every so often. I have to re-adjust them after every 3 or 4 rides.

Trouble, Trouble, Trouble! But love bike

November 29, 2011

Well, I did get a manual that did give me all the help& photos that I needed to put the bike,( Meridian) together. I was not missing any parts, BUT!! When I went to put the DRIVE WHEEL on I found that not only was the wheel warped, it was too warped to use. All the other wheels were 100% straight. Well my bike was ordered from Wallmart and I got the extended warranty WallMart has. Let me tell you that was the best thing I did. They take care of things better than Schwinn. I called Wallmart and they sent me a whole new bike while I still had the first bike. I just took out the drive wheel I needed and put the bad wheel in the new box. GUESS WHAT? The new wheel is warped too!! Not as bad, but w be some of the troublearped. I put a note in the box telling them I should not have to settle for a less bent wheel, but I did for now. Do you all know that Schwinn is made in china now and not theU.S.A.?? I think that could be some of the trouble. AND, Fed-ex bangs alot of boxs around too. Wallmart paid for all shipping, ALL! If I come up with that loud clanging sound others have reported in the early reviews, then IT will be because of the warped weel they sent me. I hope this helps some of you out. Good luck!!

heavy duty

November 19, 2011

I got my Meridian out of a storage unit left behind, it didn't have a basket or instructions. Part of my therapy in Rehab was making it work. I was riding it down the halls, when I got home I built a box on back thinking my dog might ride,(not). I was 400lbs. & now i'm 300. I ride every day on flat ground, some small hills & love it so much every one wants to buy it or find another. The single speed was ok at first, so now i'm adding a derailer & five gears. the rear brake don't work well no matter how you fix it, I removed it to add the 5 gears. I have a slight click in the rear end but well find a way to fix it if it brakes.I also don't walk without a walker so I made it fit on the box & go to the store 2 or 3 times a week ,2 miles one way. I've had a few swhinn's growing up but this one's not American but I would ride it cross country if I wasn't afraid of 2000lb. cars.

FITS LIKE A GLOVE

November 6, 2011

I just read the published reviews. The manual I received was fine. All the parts were there. It took me 2 days to assemble it but I believe my being 71 with a right arm that does not work properly added to it. After 2 days and a "test hop", I am thoroughly satisfied. Nice smooth ride, easy pedaling for a one speed. It will serve my exercise needs as well as my 1 year old grand son wanting to be with his Papa. I bought a front seat for him, helmets for both of us and a horn for him. Age and the abuse the body takes after 20 years of active duty in the Marines and plenty of sports action, I can not run or take a walk anymore. This bike is a fine replacement for those.

My Meridian

September 8, 2011

I have a three speed Town and Country three wheel bike. I loved having the speeds. So when I bought my new meridian I was a tad hesitant. But let me tell you this sweet bike pedals so easy and I love it. I have severe Rhuematoid Arthuritis, but it is helping me with excersiing without the weight stress on the knees Keep up the good work Schwinn.

This tRike is simple if Walmart assembles it and you don't sign for it until its perfect. At 61 my assembly days are over. I have added a 500 watt front motor with a 36 volt battery in the basket to go 20 mi on a charge @ 15 mph. Isaved me 95,00 gas last month.

Amazing Trike

May 24, 2011

I LOVE this trike. I didn't have to put it together since I bought it fully assembled from the NEX. It rides like a dream and is so fund to cruise around on. I even took it shopping once, rode up to the strip mall and bought a ton of stuff, the basket on the back was full and riding still was easy. It took a bit to adjust to how it rode (turning the handlebars rather than leaning in to a turn) but after that it was so much fun. I have passed her on to someone else who also loves it and she loves how easy it is for her to ride (she cannot ride a 2 wheel bike because of balance problems). I wish I didn't have to give it up. My only gripe is that it was one speed, but not the fault of the bike, but that makes for a hassle when you are going uphill or trying to keep pace with someone on a mountain bike. Otherwise, it's a great bike and I would recommend buying one that is already assembled or take it to a bike shop and have them do it rather than face the hassle of the nondescript manual.

Good trike with pacaging Flaws

May 13, 2011

this bike is great once you get it put together one of the most frustrationg parts in the manual doesnt actually go with the bike but i found the manual online that does here is the adress http://www.schwinnbikes.com/media/uploads/blog/files/Schwinn-Meridian-Manual_Mar2011.pdf It took all the guess work out my other complaint is that screws were all loose in the box and the box itself looked like it had been through a war but the buke inside was in grea shape all the scres were there and it rides great i have no problems with my back while i am riding although i did have to learn how turn corners because leaning was nolonger requred.

May 7, 2011

My lord you are all right on track. I was a little spolied i bought it already togeather even thouhg it seems its taken a few trips around the floor inside the store. The Manual HA what Manual it shows ya how too put togeather just about everybike BUT this one. And ya would love a number to order some missing parts. Its a very unique bike and does the job it was bought too do but you would think a company like Schwinn would be more on their game and care a little more about us "The Buyer" I hope they make the right choices and adjustments to keep alife this true classic name and what i thought porduct! Please any info /numbers anyone may know for parts please point me in the right direction. O.K. back to tighting up every last bolt!!!!

Great bike!

May 5, 2011

This is a great bike. My daughter bought it for me after a stroke and long hospital stay. We assembled it together in an afternoon. I can't balance any longer - at the young age of 78 - so this was an excellent way to get some exercise/rehab. I ride with my granddaughters. I highly recommend this bike!

Very Happy

April 16, 2011

I love the bike, I am 62 y/o with bad knees in a hilly community. Fortunately the trail by my house is flat. I intend to work my way down the trails further and further as Fayetteville has a wonderful trail system. The bike roade well and my little dog joined me, riding in the basket on a pillow. I know I will have many years of enjoyment from this bike. The only reason I give 4 stars was because of the manual and others have express how I feel about that.

Great Bike! Thanks for the new manual

April 7, 2011

Assembled the bike before finding out that there is a new manual (in the "Resources" section) just for the meridian. Helpful even when I'd already assembled it. It's a great bike! Now I just have to wait for the weather to warm up.

Manual that comes with bike is a sad joke, or rotten joke.

January 28, 2011

A person using that manual would be better off throwing it away, and assemble the bike with guess work, also a fender bent, one of the long bolt's that goes in a corner of the basket is missing, now where would a person get a replacement bole so the basket will not collapse. If this was american made I am certain it would be a better bike and parts would be avaiable.

Majorly Disappointed

December 28, 2010

My husband bought this for me for Christmas and in the good end I think I will love it, but the instruction manual is horrendous. My husband has been at it for about 5 hours now and has just given up for the evening and the front tire is not even on yet. This is awful to say the least that a company with the reputation of Schwinn would put something like this out and expect it to be ok. I read on another review that they are writing another manual, but who knows when that will be available, how long do I have to wait to use my tricycle....months. I would like to know what we are supposed to do now.

Stripped & Missing Parts

December 28, 2010

When delivered assembly instructions are non existant. One large bolt used to attach rear assembly to the frame didn't have very deep threads so when I tried to tighten it only the nylon insert would hold. Rear fender bolt missing. When I sat on the seat it wouldn't hold and stripped out the notched washers that hold the seat in proper position. It's will be a nice bike once I can get all the parts.

Instructions Manual

December 28, 2010

Dear Schwinn product development, I had the chance to read the comments of Nancy and Matthey I can not add more to it since It was also missing bolts needed to attach the fender and main frame with respective washers. One of the fenders came damaged and I hope you can give me idea how it can be replaced. Related to the manual is sad as well and not because of miss information is not sufficient infomation, I spend almost 3 hours when it supos to be one hour; how ever, I sent you my e-mail and it will be great if you can send my a copy when you have it finished, as well as answering me how to replace the damaged piece (Right Fender). I can tell you the product will be a good sale but you have to improve the information, the way it is packaged. May be some extra bolts and washers don't hurt the sales. Thanks.

It would be nice if all of the pieces were in the box

December 27, 2010

Wife bought this trike for adult daughter. I tried to put it together on Christmas, almost gave up because I had so much trouble with it. The biggest problem being a missing "C" clip to put the chain together. Without that the trike cannot be ridden. Also, it would be nice if Schwinn put together an owners manual dedicated to this trike. The adendum was useless without better pictures and instructions. For instance, putting together the rear section was difficult without clear instructions on bolt placement and I am still not sure I got it right.

Lovin' it!

December 24, 2010

I agree that putting the bike together was painful (I even had the handlebars upside down). Pictures for this model would be very helpful in the manual. And I was also missing nuts and bolts for the rear fenders that don't sit properly over the wheels. But it is perfect for my use. I live in a relatively flat community so it is my commuter vehicle. I do have one problem however. When stopped on any incline, the bike won't remain stationary. I need a parking brake!

positively the worst assembly manual i have ever read. i also went online to try to get a better, more pitctured manual..found nothing. A most generic manual for 5 different bikes, none of which talked about the adult tricycle. Once I get this meridain assembled I hope it rides better than the manual.

i did'nt get a manual that fits the bike how ever I did'nt need a manual to put this bike together I had a schwinn when I was A kid and my mom could'nt afford to buy us bikes all the time and no way we could take them to the bike shop so we built and fixed bikes at the age of 10, 11, and 12yrs old that"s what we had to do if we wanted to ride. all it takes is a little common sense.

Instruction manual is pitiful

December 13, 2010

I just read the review by Matthew and our experience is exactly the same. Trying to put this bike together without even a picture to go by is frustrating, to say the least. We are still in the process of assembly as we ran out of patience and time on our first attempt. It's hard to believe that a company like Schwinn would be so slack in this regard. I was hoping to find some instructions on line, but I have found nothing. NOTE FROM SCHWINN: Due to the feedback we've received about the Meridian instruction manual, we're creating a new one. It will be posted on the manuals page as soon as it's complete. We apologize for the confusion the current manual causes. For assembly help, please call our customer service at 1-800-626-2811. Thanks.

Beaverton,

Good price, instruction manual a joke

November 15, 2010

There was no guidelines in the owners manual to put on the front fender. It was also missing the bolt needed to attach the fender and I had to go buy one with washers. If the back fenders are not just right they touch the tires, yank forward out of place and act as friction brakes. The design also calls for tightening the back fenders after the tires are on, which makes getting them on perfectly like they need to be very difficult. Also the small c-clip that connects rear chain together came off even though I triple checked it was on as specified in the instructions. Oh, a word on the lack of part ordering available on the website, I am very unhappy with that. I find it distasteful the link about about getting getting replacements parts leads you first about how little the warranty covers when all I want is to order a small c-clip, and perhaps some spares as I expect this to happen again. Having a trike is awesome, and when everything is working as it should I am very happy having one. Not so happy about the overall experience with the one I bought though. I don't believe that to be a defect in the particular model, rather the processes from the writing of the manual, packaging all the parts it should have, to the support that is toted as "legendary" at the top of their page is at fault. Good news is these are fixable and I hope other people have a better experience.
