    I bought a Racer because I want my commuters to be as simple and maintenance-free as an old Datsun 510. After trading out the useless tires for some Gatorskins and getting the somewhat problematic rear coaster brakes serious grabbing issues sorted, the Racer has been all I've expected it to be. Comfortable, feels solid, very nice finish and as reliable as a brick. For a single, the gearing will work for just about anyone right out of the box. The Alex rims have taken a brutal beating and are still in great shape. The only caveat is you aren't going to stop in hurry, no matter how you try. The coaster and 700x25 combination is prone to locking up very easily and the front brake is not the best in articulation. Still, its an S.S., the brakes will due for the application.
    I got this bike for dirt cheap on clearance and am very pleased with it. You can spend more, but no reason to. The beating Schwinn's take from internet Lances and other elitists is totally undeserved.
