How to Make a Snowflake Mobile Decoration

Holiday crafts are fun for all ages, but they're even better when you get to repurpose and reuse something that you might have otherwise thrown out.

While it's best to properly maintain and pump your tires so they last a long time, flat tires are pretty common. If you have a tire that's sat in the garage for too long or one that's practically bald, try reusing it by turning it into a snowflake mobile!

Snowflake Mobile Holiday Decoration:

This snowflake mobile is a great way to get the family together while also creating a fun bicycle-themed decoration. You can use a wheel that is no longer usable or just use one from a bike that is currently on holiday. This project will not damage the wheel in any way, so when the season is over you can go out and ride on it once again.

For this project you will need:

  • White printing paper
  • Scissors
  • Sewing thread in white
  • Twine
  • A bicycle wheel

Step 1. Cut out small squares from your printing paper. I kept my squares around 3" x 3" or 4" x 4", but feel free to use whatever sizes you want.

Step 2. Cut out a lot of snowflakes. I mean you need around 60 snowflakes depending on your wheel size. The way I determined what I needed was by counting the number of spokes on the wheel and adding that to the number of free spaces between each spoke and that is the number of snowflakes you need. (The picture to the left illustrates those areas on the wheel.)

Step 3. Tie one end of the snowflakes onto the wheel areas listed above. So there should be one snow flak on each spoke and one snowflake better each.

Step 4. Hang your mobile (you may have to untangle it a bit) and enjoy!
