How to Assemble a Parkwood Comfort Hybrid E-Bike

Jena Greengus

Congratulations on your new Parkwood electric bike! Before hopping on, it’s important to ensure your bike is fully assembled, tires are inflated, and brakes are working properly. Follow our step-by-step guide below, watch our assembly video for a visual walkthrough, or download the illustrated Quick Start Guide (PDF) for reference.

Need help along the way? No worries! Give us a shout, and we’ll be happy to help.

Tools You’ll Need for Assembly:

  • Scissors
  • 4 mm hex key
  • 15 mm open-end wrench
  • Philips head screwdriver
  • Air pump

Step 1: Unbox Your E-Bike

  1. Carefully lift each part out of the box. Ask a friend to help if needed, the bike may be heavy.
  2. Locate the small parts box and set aside the pedals, charger, and keys.
  3. Carefully remove all protective packaging materials. IMPORTANT: Cut away from the bike and parts to avoid damage.
  4. Inspect your bike for any shipping damage and confirm all parts are included.

Step 2: Install the Seat

  1. Open the quick-release lever on the bike frame.
  2. Insert the seatpost into the seat tube and lower it to your desired height. IMPORTANT: Make sure the minimum insertion line is not visible.
  3. Rotate the seat so that it is aligned with the top tube.
  4. Close the quick-release lever so it leaves a clear imprint on your palm. If the lever closes too easily, tighten the adjustment nut. If the lever is too hard to close, loosen the adjustment nut.

Step 3: Install the Handlebars

  1. Use a 4 mm hex key to remove the four stem bolts from the faceplate and set them aside.
  2. Place the center of the handlebars into the stem. Make sure cables run smoothly and brake levers face forward. IMPORTANT: From your riding position, the front brake lever must be on the left side of the bike.
  3. Attach the faceplate loosely with one bolt, then insert the remaining bolts.
  4. Partially tighten them in an alternating X-pattern. You’ll fully tighten later after the front wheel is installed.

Step 4: Install the Front Wheel

  1. Loosen the axle nuts and washers until they are positioned at the ends of the axle.
  2. Remove the plastic spacer from the disc brake caliper. Place the wheel in the fork so the disc brake rotor fits into the caliper. IMPORTANT: The rotor should slide easily into the caliper. Do not force it into position.
  3. Position the fork dropouts over the axle and push down until snug.
  4. Using a 15 mm open-end wrench, tighten each axle nut to secure the front wheel.

Step 5: Adjust & Tighten the Handlebars

  1. Center the handlebars in the faceplate.
  2. Rotate handlebars so the brake levers sit at about a 45° angle.
  3. Tighten the faceplate bolts in an alternating X-pattern with a 4 mm hex key to secure the handlebars.
  4. Align handlebars perpendicular to the front wheel.
  5. Tighten the side bolts on the stem with a 4 mm hex key.
  6. Use a Phillips screwdriver to tighten the front reflector so that it is vertical and faces forward.

Step 6: Install the Pedals

  1. Match each pedal with its corresponding crank arm.
  2. Hand-tighten each pedal by turning the spindle, then fully tighten with a 15 mm wrench. IMPORTANT: Always tighten pedals by turning the wrench toward the front of the bike. If hand-tightening the pedal is difficult, remove it from the crank, reorient it, and try again. Do not cross-thread the pedals.

Step 7: Inflate the Tires

  1. Find the recommended inflation pressure marking on the side of the tire.
  2. Remove the valve cap, attach the pump, and inflate the tire. IMPORTANT: Never exceed the recommended pressure.
  3. Replace the valve cap, and repeat for the other tire.

Step 8: Charge the Battery

  1. Insert the charging cable into the charging port then plug it into a power outlet. IMPORTANT! Use only the original Schwinn charger provided with your e-bike.
  2. The red indicator light will come on while the battery is charging. When the battery is fully charged, the indicator light will turn green.

Step 9: Adjustments and Safety Check

  • Check that all parts are secure. Recheck after your first ride to make sure nothing came loose.
  • Adjust seat height so it’s about hip level while standing next to the bike.
  • Test the brakes by rolling the bike back and forth. Squeeze each brake lever to test that the brakes engage firmly and stop the wheels.

Be sure to read the owner’s manual that came with your bike before taking your first ride. It contains crucial information about safety, performance, proper use, and maintenance. Once everything is tightened and adjusted, put on your helmet and enjoy your ride!
